INTRODUCTION
A nano fluid defined as a fluid in which any nan particles
(NP) are uniformly dispersed in the virgin fluid. A ferro fluid
in the context of power transfer cooling medium is a mineral
transformer oil in which ferro - nano-particles, generally
magnetite (Fez04), are dispersed. A ferr of luid is seen to
enhance cooling of power transformers. Heat generated by
the winding's and magnetic core produces temperature
gradients in the ferro-fluid, where there is also a nonuniform
magnetic field. It is also thought that the high
alternating magnetic field in the vicinity of the winding's and
oil ducts can cause magnetic particle move randomly and
hence reduce temperature gradients in the body of the
transformer fluid. Studies have shown that a reduction of
about 12°C in the top oil temperature in experimental 50-
kVA units of ferro-fluid transformers compared to pure
transformer oil. Also, 10 nm size Fez04 particles are so
small, they appear to have no deleterious effect on the
dielectric properties including electrical breakdown strength.
