he Adult Migrant English Program provides free English language courses to help eligible adults settle in Australia.
It will help you learn about Australian society, culture and customs. You can also meet other new arrivals, who may have similar experiences to you.
You may get up to 510 hours of English courses. This will either be for 5 years from your visa start date or until you understand functional English, whichever comes first.
Eligibility
You may be eligible to be referred to the Adult Migrant English Program if you are a permanent resident or hold an eligible temporary visa, have little or no English, and are:
an adult, aged 18 years or older, or
aged 15-17 years of age and not attending school

You must also meet the following time frame from your date of arrival in Australia or visa commencement to remain eligible:
register with an AMEP provider within 6 months (or 12 months if you are under 18 years of age)
commence tuition within 12 months and
complete your tuition within 5 years
AMEP providers may be able to arrange free child care for children under school age while you attend your class. If you are not eligible, test your eligibility for Jobs, Education and Training Child Care Fee Assistance if you are receiving an eligible payment.
Registration
AMEP courses are held at over 250 locations across Australia. You must register with an AMEP provider to attend a course.
