4. Conclusions
In this study, mixed FW was pretreated with in-situ produced
highly efficient fungal mash rich in various hydrolytic enzymes,
and it was demonstrated that the hydrolyzate produced is an
excellent medium for ethanol production. Using the FW hydrolyzate,
which contained 127 g/L glucose and 1.8 g/L FAN with C/N
ratio of 28 as sole substrate, 58 g/L ethanol was produced with a
yield of 0.5 g ethanol/g glucose. It appears from this study that
widely available FW has a great potential for ethanol fermentation
when it is pretreated by the in-situ produced fungal mash.
