Unfortunately, Feed SA struggles to collect donations from the public of South Africa despite the large discrepancy between the rich and poor that exists within the country. As a result, Feed SA in conjunction with Johannesburg advertising agency TBWA South Africa established the “See how easy feeding the hungry it can be?” campaign pictured above.
The campaign’s market segment are the more fortunate of SA, and targets its audience by installing decals in the bottom of grocery carts. The images depict poverty stricken kids reaching out to shoppers. In support of this, donation tins were distributed to the participating grocery stores.
The advertising campaign appeals to the emotions of audiences, to evoke sympathy for those less fortunate. Although highly intrusive, the intrusion is appropriate for the promotional message. It forces its audience to question the human rights issue at hand, and encourage them to contribute to the cause.
