Tourism in the economy
Tourism plays a major role in the national economy. In 2011, the accommodation and
cateringsector produced an output of EUR 88.5 billion (2.4% of total output) and an added
value of EUR 44.1 billion (2.5% of GDP). Internal tourism consumption accounts for more
than 7% of GDP (Tourism Satellite Account). Tourism accounts for one of the biggest
