Although chromium has been suggested as an essential
mineral for human and animal, the exact role of chromium
and its mode of action are not elucidated yet. Chromium
exists in nature mostly in trivalent (Cr3+) form. Hexavalent
(Cr6+) form can be existent but it is unstable and toxic in
human and animal due to its strong oxidizing properties.
Chromium requirement for human is relatively well known
but not for animal. Chromium requirement seems to
increase in animal and human as a consequence of stressors
such as fatigue, trauma, pregnancy and other nutritional,
metabolic, physical, environmental and emotional stresses.
