The authors aimed to run two MB groups,
two CHiP groups and two care-as-usual (CAU)
‘groups’; one of each in each area, with eight
women in each group (n=48). In order to ensure
that there were sufficient women at the right
stage of pregnancy to make running a group
intervention viable, consenting participants were
randomly allocated in blocks of six to either MB,
CHiP or CAU. For the final group, randomisation
was abandoned to ensure that equal numbers of
each of the intervention groups would take place.
Participants were offered a £20 shopping voucher
at the last data-collection point as recompense for
time spent in the study.
