Katy Perry has sent a heartwarming video message to a young fan suffering with a terminal illness.
Perry responded to a social media appeal on behalf of 13-year-old Sophie Birtles, who has the incurable genetic disorder juvenile Sandhoff disease.
Referencing her 2010 hit "Firework", Perry held back tears as she said: "Sophie… I heard your story and I just wanted to tell you that you are a firework and you are trendy and I do love you. Everybody loves you. And we're all thinking about you all over the world right now. And sending you so much love, I hope you can feel it with this message."

The pop star was alerted to the campaign through the hashtag #youreafireworksophie, which has been circulated by thousands on social media.
According to the BBC, Birtles is currently cared for at Rebecca House Children's Hospice in the Isle of Man, which is located in the Irish Sea between Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales.
