To determine the effects of carbon sources on the production of
MCA by B. subtilis (natto) Takahashi, the bacteria were cultivated in
the S-medium except that the soybean was 10 g/L and the carbon
source was replaced with the glucose, fructose and lactose in the
same amount. As shown in Table 3, when the fructose and lactose
was used as the carbon source, noMCA was detected in the medium.
