Many construction sequences recur for the same construction
type, particularly when the activities of a construction company
are considered. The scheduling of these processes is repeated each
time. Thus, project managers often spend their time on routine
activities rather than concentrating on solving critical execution
problems. Automatic generation of schedules based on experiences
from similar construction projects that were successfully executed
would be extremely beneficial to project managers. To reduce the
definition efforts and to increase the precision of planned and executed
performance, building information as created by CAD planning
tools can be included and used as an information resource
for schedule generation. Linking Building Information Model
(BIM) data and process information is an important step to support
the automated generation of schedules. By using automatic schedule
generation, planning changes can be rapidly integrated. Furthermore,
several planning solutions can be included in form of
construction alternatives.
