The presentworkdescribesthedevelopmentofa mSI-LOVmethodforthesimultaneousscreeningof
cadmium andleadinpotentiallycontaminatedwatersamples.Toattainthebiparametricdetermination,
dithizone waschosenasthespectrophotometricreagentasitformsacoloredcomplexwithbothmetal
ions, atdifferentpHconditions.Thecadmiumdeterminationwasattainedinstrongalkalineconditions
(pHE12);theleaddeterminationwascalculatedbythedifferencewiththedeterminationofboth
metals inmildalkalineconditions(pHE8). Thecoloredcomplexwasmeasuredat550nmandthe
method presentedaLODof34 μg L1 for cadmiumand56 μg L1 for lead,withasampleconsumption
of 20 mL perassayandadeterminationrateof55h1. Theresultsobtainedwereinagreementwiththose
obtained byFAAS.Thedevelopedmethodwasefficiently appliedtothescreeningofcadmiumandleadin
marine portwaters.
