Japanese management consultant Kenichi Ohmae calls this a “borderless world” where national boundaries have largely disappeared in world business. Take the example of Hewlett-Packard. It operates in 178 countries and most of its 304,000 employees work outside of the United States. It is the largest technology company in Europe, the Middle East, and Russia. Although headquartered in Palo Alto, California, one has to wonder: Is HP truly an American company anymore?
