Possible contributing factors to the negative growth performance of fermented liquid feed fed-pigs reported in the literature are degradation of free amino acids in the mixture prior to feeding and low palatability (Brooks et al., 2001; Pedersen, 2001). Low pH combined with high concentration of some fermentation metabolites, i. e. acetic acid and biogenic amines, have been hypothesized to impair palatability of fermented liquid feed, particularly when fed to piglets
(Brooks et al., 2001).
