The descriptive statistics of means and standard deviations of the conference
motivations are reported in Table 3A. The top five major conference motivations
were “Education,” “Networking,” “Interesting conference programs,”
“Career enhancement,” and “Traveling to desirable place.” On the other hand,
the lowest conference motivations were “Visiting friends and relatives” and
“Outdoor recreation (golf, water activities).” This result is consistent with the
study of Price (1993), indicating that education and networking were important
factors in the conference decision making process. Therefore, conference
packages should highlight an opportunity for education and socialization to increase
conference attendance. Moreover, annual conferences, which take
place in major tourist attractions, would increase the conference attendance,
because they allow association members to travel to desirable places. In addition,
the association organizers can increase attendance by promoting the tourist
attractions to both members and their spouses. This would not only increase
the attendance, but also the length of stay at the conferences.
