Much of Kanchanaburi’s history involves the Second World War and the building of the ‘Death Railway’ during Thailand’s Japanese administration. Kanchanaburi has a number of museums and monuments reflecting this era, and these are juxtaposed against Prasat Muang Singh – one of the most important ancient Khmer sites in the country. The site boasts shrines and artefacts displayed in museums alongside evidence of the area’s Neolithic past. Clearly an area rich in diverse aspects of history, a visit to Kanchanaburi will prove extremely rewarding.
