Developing buds are visible before roots in jatropha stem
cuttings (Fig. 2A). According to Kochhar et al. [10], buds start
producing auxins which move downward, accumulate in the
very bottom of the jatropha cutting, and promote root initiation.
In this experiment, an unusual formation of callus on the
base of stem cuttings was observed (Fig. 2B), but roots developed
as well. Some factors (maybe high moisture) influenced hormones in those cuttings leading to the formation of callus.
The development of some extremely early reproductive
structures was observed (Fig. 2C), which was not seen in the
other experiments.
