The reading module, in 2007, does not seem to have fared so well, as both the academic reading, with a coefficient of 0.86, and the general reading, with a coefficient of 0.89, have both fallen below Lado’s (1989: 32) target figure of 0.9 to 0.99. Whilst these figures don’t negate the IELTS reading module’s validity, it is however evident that a higher coefficient would further endorse the validity of the test.
