Fullment of the wish of many patients to remain at home towards the end of life is heavily dependent on the caregiving eorts of family members. Palliative caregiving entails considerable health risks for the family caregiver. Provision of appropriate support for family caregivers can ameliorate these risks and enhance family members’ quality of life. As the population ages and people are living longer with increasingly complex morbidities, family caregivers will be increasingly called upon to provide care at the end of life. Finding the best ways to support family caregivers should be a healthcare priority.
