Passengers on a Singapore Airlines flight SQ 25 today June 21 got surprise stop in Kuala Lumpur, but they weren’t too thrilled about it. Seems a warning light came on while the Boeing 777 was in flight heading from Mumbai, India to Singapore. The Straits Times reported today that aircraft was diverted to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday afternoon after it received a cargo fire warning message about 20-minutes before the plane was due to land at Changi airport.
A SIA spokesman told The Straits Times that the warning was sounded towards the end of its flight from Mumbai, India, just 20 minutes before descent into Singapore. There were no injuries or incidents during the landing in Kuala Lumpur which took place at 4.01 p.m. local time. The craft was thoroughly inspected while on the ground, and showed no signs of fire late. The flight resumed service to Singapore about three hours after touch down in Kuala Lumpur and landed in Singapore at 8.43 p.m. also about four hours after the scheduled time of arrival.
Kuala Lumpur is a fascinating and bustling busy city with skyscrapers, six-lane highways, colonial architecture and lots of greenery. Highlights include the Petron as Twin Towers--a consumer’s paradise with some of Southeast Asia’s largest shopping malls that carry high-end labels. There are also lots of street markets where you can get one-of-a-kind items.
The traffic is worse than Los Angeles and New York but worth putting up with to check out the city’s exotic ambiance with mosques and temples side-by-side with street markets and towering high rises. If the Singapore Airline flight had to over-night in KL they could have gotten the chance the amazing food served in thousands of restaurants.
Ask almost any jet-setter who has flown Singapore Airlines and they will most likely rave about the inflight service in all cabin classes, but especially in first.
