In addition tomicrobial polysaccharide, marine microbes have been explored for bioactive monosaccharides.
Due to several adaptations to hard marine environment, marine derived novel microbial species have been reported as high yield producers of both glucosamine and chitosan compared to those of terrestrial species.
These strains have a potential to be used as alternative source for production of vegetarian glucosamine which has growing demand in modern nutraceuticals further studies are necessary for validation and scale up of the glucosamine production using marine microbial strains.
