The paper presents an analysis of emission characteristic of particulate matter (PM) operating with Palm Oil Methyl Ester (PME). One of the major pollutants emitted from the diesel engine is PM and it is harmful to human health. In order to reduce PM emissions, PME fuel is being used in this experiment. The effect of PM components such as soluble organic fraction (SOF) and dry soot (DS) using PME and pure diesel were studied. Experiments were performed using four cylinder engines, IDI diesel engine. The experimental data shows PME 100 can reduce the PM emission up to 50%. In addition, the result also indicates that at 2500 rpm for both fuels, PM concentration is reduced. Thus, it is very helpful to understand the behavior of PM emission in diesel engine as well as emission control for future engine diesel.
