Fish were examined within four days of being collected; they were sedated prior
to extermination with clove oil and given a cervical cut. During a complete parasitological examination, the fins and hemibranchia of the gills were cut and examined under a dissecting microscope for the presence of Myxobolus plasmodia. Myxobolus spores from the isolated and opened cysts were first studied as wet mounts, and then some of the spores were placed in glycerine-jelly under a coverslip on a slide
and preserved as a reference preparation.
