Summary
When all of the presently planned cables and upgrades have been completed there will be significantly more than 100 Gbps of backed-up SDH capacity over the North Atlantic. That will come from TAT-12/13 (upgrade to 30 Gbps to be completed by mid-1999), Atlantic Crossing (full configuration ready for service at 40 Gbps in February 1999) and Gemini (full configuration ready for service at 60 Gbps in October 1998). That will represent a close to 10-fold increase in transatlantic capacity in the period from mid-1996 to mid-1999.
