Some authors write many books only to have just one or two become popular. Charles Dickens is definitely not one of those authors. One of his best-known works is David Copperfield, which was written in 1849. In the book, the main character, David, tells the story of his own life. Many parts of the story are sad. David’s parents die when he is a boy, and he has to go to work in a factory. A master of comedy, Dickens somehow tells David's tragic story with amazing humor. Of all of Dickens's books, David Copperfield's story is the closest to the author’s own life.
Even if you're not a Harry Potter fan, you probably know a lot about the young glasses-wearing wizard and his adventures at Hogwarts School. With millions spent over the past fifteen years on advertising and promotion for the seven books in the series—each book also having been made into a movie—the story has been impossible to avoid. Surprisingly, some have even called author J. K. Rowling "the most imaginative writer of all time." Where does that kind of inspiration come from? As it turns out, you don't need to have a wildly exciting life in order to create one in your imagination. In fact, an average childhood with an average amount of boredom allowed J. K. Rowling to escape to the excitement of her own mind. Her first story was written for her younger sister. In the story, her sister fell into a rabbit hole and was fed strawberries by the rabbit.
