Silviculture is the manipulation of forest structures and
dynamics to achieve management goals. Consequently, if reservation
goals are met through passive management, as is often the
case in existing old-growth forests, there is no need to implement
silvicultural practices. However, in other settings, silvicultural
practices may be beneficial or even necessary to promote oldgrowthness.
