Establishing the GAC Administrative Team
By the mid-1980s GAC had grown to the point where more formal management structures with more layers were needed. In 1984, Bengt Lindwall adopted an administrative team. This team, in turn, helped design a new structure for GAC which would streamline management for efficient operations and reduce the workload on many individuals.
An Executive Chairman and President were designated and a Finance/ Administration office was established. Finally GAC was divided into three main divisions: Shipping Services, Cargo Services, and Marine Services.
The eighties was the decade in which GAC started the shift from being a group of individual offices scouting their territories and finding business wherever it lay, to something different. Now an organisation was emerging that had a corporate heart, a distinct corporate culture, a clear set of strategic business objectives and an expanding global vision of its place in the worldwide shipping and transport industries.
