THERE HAVE BEEN MANY REPORTS SAYING THAT STORES IN THE EARTHQUAKE AFFECTED AREAS ARE INCREASING THE PRICES OF BASIC PRODUCTS. THE MINISTER OF ECONOMY, DEVELOPMENT AND TOURISM, LUIS FELIPE CÉSPEDES, MADE AN IMPORTANT CALL TO ANYONE NOTICING THOSE SITUATIONS TO REPORT THEM. HE ALSO ANNOUNCED THAT AUTHORITIES ARE GATHERING INFORMATION TO ACT EFFICIENTLY AGAINST THOSE RESPONSIBLE.
“We want to make sure that things are selling at the right prices. It is important that if there are specific cases, they must be reported to the Prosecutors’ Office or in National Consumer Service (SERNAC). It is a very complicated time for this region, but people have the right to buy the products at their normal prices,” Céspedes stated.
The authority of economy added that as Government “all situations are being monitored, in order for people to have the opportunity to buy the products in fair prices,” he ended.
The Minister had instructed SERNAC to diligently review those reports in order to make some actions before eventual breaches of law, in corresponding cases.
