Heavy and awkward loads, and manual handling: Shrimp farming involves heavy, physical and strenuous work: Lifting and carrying heavy and often awkward loads, often over considerable distances, working in awkward postures, prolonged standing, bending, stooping and kneeling are regularly carried out during daily work operations. Injuries which result include: damage to fingers, wrists and elbows; low back pain; neck and shoulder pain, and damage to muscles, joints, tendons and nerves. Collectively, these injuries are termed “musculoskeletal disorders”.
