In this paper Microstrip patch antenna was designed using
conventional methods operating at 3 GHz frequency. And
other antenna was designed using DMS, A defect of
dimensions 20mm x 1mm was designed using a resonator as
a reference model. This defect was used in the patch
antenna. After several trials, the final length was found to be
less in dimensions in the range of not less than 20% in any
dimension. The output cutoff frequency was at 2.96 GHz.
The New area was 63% of the original area. Thus we
achieved an effective size reduction of 37%.The
advantage of a smaller area was that we can reduce the cost
in designing microstrip antennas and we can even pack
more antennas into the system.
