I don't think unisex toilets are a bad idea at all, if they're designed properly (I'm thinking of a toilet bowl whose back curves upward to form a urinal, and the seat has an up/down pedal on the floor). However, this has opened another can of worms: why, with all the sensor technology I see on toilets nowadays, can there not be any TOTALLY enclosed toilet stalls, without that irksome foot of space from the panels to the floor? I assumed they always built them that way so that if you lost consciousness and fell off the crapper, the other people in the bathroom could drag you out of the stall without having to bust the door open. Why can't they just put sensors at head level, so that if you fall off the pot when the door is locked, an alarm sounds?
One more case for totally enclosed stalls: the old guy at my day job who trained me, had a colostomy... you can imagine how tox the company men's room smelled every time he finished using it.
