Nonetheless, the international community has
long since spared no efforts to establish the common denominator for the legislative
jurisdiction of coastal States over foreign ships on the international plane,
given the background of the need for facilitating international navigation and trade
that lie in the interests of all States. The achievements of that process so far are
seen in UNCLOS.
