Capsaicin Supplement Reduces Appetite
Numerous studies point to capsaicin as an effective appetite suppressant. A 2009 study published in the journal Clinical Nutrition reported that when combined with green tea, capsaicin reduced the appetite of 27 volunteers, as well as the number of calories they ingested.
Another study found that 12 men and 12 women who consumed .9 grams of capsaicin in tomato juice for 2 consecutive days ate significantly fewer calories than those who drank a placebo mixed with tomato juice: the women reduced their caloric intake by 14% and the men by 16%.
Reporting on the findings of a similar study, the European Journal of Nutrition cited one reason why capsaicin so effectively suppresses appetite. Researchers found that capsaicin decreases the production of the hunger-inducing hormone, ghrelin.
