This research paper deals with the application of the transmission technology NFC in a hotel context. Since the hospitality is highly labour intensive, it is necessary to optimise business processes. In order to evaluate the usage of NFC in relation to the latter, the authors examined several use cases as well as two concrete case studies where NFC is applied. Also, an overview of why effective employee relationship management is important and how NFC can enable more efficient processes in this area is pointed out. In order to evaluate the value of NFC for the workforce management at a hotel, a co-operation with the Austrian company hotelkit has been established. A detailed description of this enterprise is given in the study. To sum up, the company acts within the Austrian hospitality industry having several hundred clients and provides the soft- as well as hardware for the empirical research. In order to arrange the latter most effectively, a measurement scale has been developed by the authors focusing on usability, effectiveness, efficiency, acceptance, and availability.
