The word glass is likely to make us think of a manmade product. Man has been making glass in many forms for thousands of years. But nature makes glass, too. When lighting strikes a sandy beach, a thin crust of glass may be formed. Another way that nature makes glass is in a volcano. An erupting volcano can produce a kind of glass rock that is known as obsidian.
