Pay Secrecy
According to organizational etiquette, asking others their salaries is generally considered gauche. In a study at DuPont, all employees were asked if the company should disclose more payroll information so that everyone would know everyone else's pay. Only 18 percent voted for an open pay differentials, employees are less likely to confront supervisors about inequitable pay. Consequently, managers do not have to defend or justify their actions.
