The cryotrap unit protrudes into the oven of the GC, and the column passes through the centre of the cryotrap ‘shuttle’ (the part that moves back-and-forth along the column). The range of applications to which this device can be applied is very broad, from aiding injection, to modulating peaks just before the detector, and most importantly, unique ways to hyphenate two columns within the chromatographic channel.
