gradually decreased (Fig. 6). Anxiety about the future health
status varied during the pre- and postoperative period with
the highest level one week postoperatively when 31%
experienced anxiety (Fig. 7). During the first week postoperatively,
31% of the patients felt less attractive as a result of
the disease compared to 11% four weeks postoperatively.
After four weeks, the percentage of patients interested in sex
activities was almost the same as preoperatively 36% vs.
39%.
Results of follow-up calls
The interviews confirmed some results from the questionnaires.
After five weeks, the most intriguing symptom was
fatigue, and this was also remembered and confirmed after
one year. Another problem was the difficulty in contacting
the hospital and getting advice concerning surgery-related
symptoms. There were no complaints of pain, and the use of
