Discussion and conclusion
The objective of this study is to explore the relationship between the ESOP variables,
equity, psychological contract, and employee attitudes. We tested the hypothesis with
a sample of 98 knowledge workers in Ireland. Prior studies on ESOPs (e.g. Klein, 1987)
reported that stock ownership appear to affect employee attitudes due to their intrinsic
value such as ownership and control, and extrinsic values such as monetary gain.
However, the results of our study indicated some interesting and contrary results.
