Unfortunately I am not an expert in this area.
I know that reverse osmosis can concentrate many chemicals but I do not know how successful it will be for ammonia water. At a minimum, a batch test on the water should be conducted to determine if reverse osmosis is effective. It also sounds like the reverse osmosis system may be expensive and may involve a lot of operation and maintenance. Have you received a quote for the RO System from the contractor and have they explained how to operate it? Cyndi, do you have any comments on use of RO for ammonia water?
I assume when you say distilling the ammonia water you are talking about heating it up to boil off the water. I don't know if this will cause any chemical reactions with the ammonia. I do not know how effective activated carbon is to control ammonia emissions. We certainly don't want to cause ammonia odor problems off-site or on-site. Dave, do you have any thoughts on this alternative and how effective activated carbon would be to control ammonia emissions that have a substantial amount of water vapor? I assume some sort of air permit would be necessary to apply this option.
