, the OFT’s duties were originally governed primarily
by the Fair Trading Act 1973 and the Competition Act 1980; in addition, under the
Restrictive Trade Practices Act 1976, the Director General had responsibility for bringing
cases of restrictive practices before the Restrictive Practices Court. With the passage of
the Competition Act 1998, the new prohibition regime has been applied and enforced by
the DGFT, and the OFT was given additional resources to root out cartels and restrictive
behaviour
