While self-management is widely accepted as a means of coping with such chronic health conditions as diabetes, asthma, and arthritis,
its value in treating urinary and fecal incontinence is not fully appreciated by many health care providers, who may be aware of the daily challenges faced by those with these conditions, but unsure of how to best support patients in effective self-management.
