this case study demonstrates the importance of process. The North West
region was at a point where those at an operational level were asking for a
demonstration of regional level commitment to take forward the national workplace
health agenda. The scope and breadth of the regional strategy further informed
national developments, but its effective delivery within the North West region was
seriously hampered by the lack of co-ordination, governance and ownership. In order
for workplace health to be meaningfully addressed across the full continuum, there
needs to be more room for manoeuvre at a regional level, to enable priorities identified
by a broad range of stakeholders to be listened to, inform policy and be funded. Lack of
funding to evaluate the strategy will mean it will be impossible to assess the strategy’s potential for longer term impact on the improvement of the health of the workforce in the North West of England
