Malinowski was born in Krakow on April 7, 1884 to Lucjan and jozefa. He grew up in an educated upper-class family and as a student he received his PhD in Philosophy, Physics and Mathematics from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow in 1908. In 1913, he lectured at the London School of Economics, where he earned his PhD in Science in 1916. It was in England that he first became interested in anthropology: the exploration of different human cultures.
