However, the CSR approach can be particularly significant
in countries where state structures that would allow the introduction of proper
social systems by the government are not yet set up. CSR has up to now been
familiar as an instrument of multinationals that would like to improve their
image as socially and ecological responsible entities. In the meantime, however,
CSR is becoming more important as an instrument for larger or even mediumsized
domestic firms, which are increasingly seen as potential partners in the
search for greater social equality. These firms also view their engagement as a
way to increase the commitment of their employees and thus improve the overall
performance of their operations.
