RESULTS
The microfluidic BPV device described here operates as a microbial fuel cell with submicroliter volume, generating electrical power by harnessing the photosynthetic and metabolic activity of biological material.
Its anodic half-cell consists of sessile Synechocystis cells - performing water photolysis (2H2O4H+ +4e-+O2) and subsequent “dark” metabolism - as well as an anode made from an InSnBi alloy and a light source.
