Chemical composition of SWBC

Fig. 1 shows a schematic of the experimental procedure. The hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin contents were determined according to the Goering and Van Soest protocol [12] by applying the concept of the use of neutral and acid detergents for carbohydrate and tannin removal. The hemicellulose content was estimated as the difference between neutral and acid detergent fiber, and the cellulose content was calculated based on the difference between the acid detergent fiber and lignin.
