Our story begins in a small jungle village, one called home by many humans. Among those are Mowgli, the muscular seventeen year old boy who was raised in the jungle for the first ten years of his life, and Shanti. Shanti was a beautiful young indian girl, whose smooth skin and kind brown eyes could melt the heart of any who laid eyes on her. She was sixteen, and had only been into the jungle once, roughly six years prior to this time, in search of Mowgli.
Since the two had been reunited, Shanti had spent her days happily at Mowgli's side as a lover, to the dismay of those who wanted her as well. The young couple never fought, as their love was stronger than most would ever see, let alone feel. However, fate was cruel to the young lovers.
One day, Shanti was at the market in the village buying a bunch of bananas from one of her usual venders. As she handed the man her money, he softly took her hand and kissed it.
"Shanti" The vender, a man by the name of Ramayan began. "I have loved you since the day that I laid eyes on you. Please, for the sake of love, leave that filthy jungle boy and be with me" He proposed, looking into her dark brown eyes with love and lust.
Shanti pulled her hand away. "Ramayan, you know that I cannot do that" she answered. "My heart belongs to Mowgli and Mowgli only"
Ramayan shook his head. "He behaves as if more than your heart belongs to him, were he to have his way you would be a mindless trophy wife for him to flaunt before the rest of us"
Shanti looked down to her tiny bare feet, shuffling them in the soft dirt of tge village streets. "It isn't his fault, he was raised by wolves whose wives only gave birth and fed, with no other purpose. Considering his upbringing Mowgli is a saint" She defended her lover.
Ramayan continued to shake his head. "Even so, it is better to have a man who can provide. Mowgli can only give you his hunt, while I can buy you anything you wish!" He pointed to her strapless purple dress, which was the envy of many village women. "Chests filled with dresses as fine as this, with even better ones to boot!" He claimed, hoping to win over her heart with goods. He took both of Shanti's hands, holding them close to his chest. "I beg of you my love, see reason and come to me!"
It was at this moment that Mowgli came looking for his girlfriend, unsure what could be holding her for so long. When he discovered Ramayan attempting to steal his love, he was dissatisfied to say the least. The fur clad teen marched over to the booth.
"SHANTI!" he yelled, grabbing her by the arm and pulling her awayfrom Ramayan the vender. Without waiting for an explanation, he led her away to their hut while he scolded her. Shanti tried to explain that Ramayan was harmless, but Mowgli was uninterested.
"Honey, please! Ramayan and I were only talking!" Shanti claimed, not wanting to tell her irritable boyfriend that she had been asked to leave him.
"I don't want you talking to him anymore, its better for me to handle things like this" Mowgli answered, waiting at the table for his dinner. Although the twowere only dating, Shanti did all the household duties as a wife.
"I can handle myself Mowgli" Shanti said back, clearly upset.
Mowgli scoffed. "I spent ten years in the jungle, with no one but wolves to be with. I can protect you from anything, but a delicate village girl like you needs me around"
Shanti muttered under her breath. She believed that she could handle herself in the jungle. As she began to fix Mowgli's dinner, she decided to prove to him how independant she could be. She ground up special berries, which were known to cause drowsiness, and pured the juice into his soup.
Mowgli accepted the meal without question, falling asleep soon after he finished. As her lover slept, Shanti changed into a short blue skirt and halter top, tied her silky smooth black hair back in a ponytail, and set out on her bare feet into the jungle.
She knew not of what she would find, or, more importantly, what would find her.
