Before 2003, the master production schedule (MPS) had been generated monthly, but not consistently so. Lack of accuracy in the forecasting process resulted in dramatic variations between editions of the MPS, and suppliers would sometimes commit to production without due diligence to determine whether they had the required capacity or materials. The Redesign Project implemented a decision support system, and more frequent (twice a month) and consistent publication of the MPS. This, together with the improvement of the demand planning process, would enable a more accurate MPS to provide clearer signals to Leitax’s suppliers about short- and long-term capacity requirements
