The second maize crop exhibited higher leaf Cu concentrations than
the first crop, which was particularly evident in the soil with the addition
of Zn because the leaf Cu concentration was 3.8 fold greater in the
second maize crop. The leaf Zn concentrations increased with the
doses of Zn in both crops and, similar to Cu, the leaf Zn concentrations
were also higher in the second crop. In the second crop the amount of
Cu and Zn accumulated in shoot biomass were higher than those observed
in the first crop. In second crop in the vineyard soil with no Zn
addition, maize plants accumulated about 0.27 and 1.56 mg pot−1 of
Cu and Zn respectively in shoot biomass, while in the treatment with
addiction of 270 mg Zn kg−1 shoot biomass accumulated 0.07 and
5.75 mg of Cu and Zn respectively.
