Irrigation with reclaimed water increased
biosolid pH and this was associated with the reduction of the
extraction of Ni and Zn, it did not influence the extraction of Cu and
the high chloride content of the reclaimed water enhanced the
phytoextraction of Cd. The effect of irrigation with reclaimed water
on the potential leaching of metals in biosolids needs further
investigation. Seasonal variations in climate, particularly temperature,
can have significant impacts on plantation growth and in
turn on the efficiency of the overall metal removal by a long-term
phytoextraction system.
